Ten Reasons Lady Gaga is Inspiring
Did you know that today (March 28th) is Lady Gaga’s (born Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta) birthday? I know not everyone is a fan of hers, but her fan base is undeniably huge and her fans love her. And for good reason! Personally, I think she is incredibly talented and there are a “Million Reasons” to celebrate what she has brought to this world, but for today I’ll share ten reasons to consider being a fan of Lady Gaga.
Why Lady Gaga is So Great
1. She is an incredibly talented singer.
Lady Gaga’s vocal range and timbre put her square into the Mezzo-Soprano range. The blending of her perfected technique with her incredible musicianship makes her an insanely talented vocalist. Though her early work that first gained her fame was more focused on showcasing her statement-filled costumes and showmanship, as time has passed people have been able to increasingly be witness to the melodic treasures that she brings to us all with her singing.
2. She writes her own songs.
Lady Gaga is one prolific lyricist indeed. She writes her own songs and has even written for others. In a world where so many famous singers do not write any of their own songs, that is saying something!
3. She can play the piano.
At the age of four, Lady Gaga began learning to play the piano. And she really excelled at it too, because she was accepted to Juilliard to study piano. Sometimes she’ll strip down some of her best-known songs into renditions on the piano and while it’s not all that often this occurs, when it does, it is a real treat. I started my piano education at the age of six and still love to play the piano to this day, so I absolutely adore it when artists do this.
4. She is versatile with music genres.
If you are familiar with her discography and have watched many of her performances, you’ve likely picked up that she is a chameleon, both in costume and in genre. Her music range is truly expansive, ranging from pop, glam rock, electronica, country, jazz, ballads, and more.
4. She is a talented actress.
Have you seen “A Star is Born” with Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper? If not, you can watch it in HBO Max, rent it on Amazon Prime, or find it on other various streaming services. If you give the time to watch it, I sincerely doubt you’ll regret it. Oh, and be sure and grab a box of tissues, before you watch it. You’re welcome.
5. She is a philanthropist.
Lady Gaga has contributed to many charities and humanitarian efforts throughout the years. Her and her mom (Cynthia Germanotta) even started the “Born this Way Foundation” to help support the mental health of our youth.
6. She urges everyone to always be their true selves.
There is this quote by Lady Gaga that goes, “You will never find what you are looking for in love, if you don’t love yourself.” Now that is something I know all too well. It took a span of my adulthood before I learned that little trick. But once you figure it out, your life is forever changed. This notion can be expanded into our entire lives. Without being true to our unique selves, we continually run the risk of being walked over and losing sight of our focus and the directions we intend our lives to take. That leads to frustration and burnout. Therefore, it’s not other people’s expectations of us that matter, it is our expectations of ourselves. Find out who you are and then work every day on becoming the best version of it that you can be. And remember, you don’t have to be perfect (and you won’t be!), you just have to live your truth.
7. She is always authentically herself.
It didn’t matter what anyone around her demanded of her. She is always authentically herself. Lady Gaga once said, “It’s not about how many times you get rejected or you fall down or you’re beaten up. It’s about how many times you stand up and are brave and you keep on going.”
9. She is intelligent.
She has the brains to add to her musical talent, because as previously mentioned, she was admitted to Juilliard. She also received early admission to NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, where she studied art, music, and religion.
10. She gives people being bullied a voice.
It turns out no one is automatically immune from bullying, no matter the amount of talent. It’s well-known that Lady Gaga suffered intense bullying in high school and at university, because she is extremely open about it. Perhaps that is a big reason why she is so fiercely protective of the voiceless and seems to always be working to lift up the underdogs. What you may not know is that her haters were so intense that when she was going to New York University, there were 12 members of a Facebook group titled “Stefani Germanotta, you’ll never be famous” which was dedicated to mocking her personally and even her gigs in the local bars. That is next-level bullying right there. But did she let that keep her down? No, if anything, it only stoked the fire of her inner drive. Lady Gaga once said, “Do not allow people to dim your shine because they are blinded. Tell them to put on some sunglasses.” Most of us have likely been the target of bullying at some point in our lives, even if it wasn’t as extreme as having a social media group dedicated to tearing us down publicly. But knowing that even someone as insanely talented and successful as Lady Gaga dealt with it and wasn’t broken by it is truly inspiring. May we all be so brave in turning those negative energies we each have pounding at us – whatever those may be, instead into something positive. Bye naysayers.
Always Be Yourself
So, are you a fan? Even after all this, you may not be and that’s ok, because we are all entitled to our own opinions. Personally, I’m amazed and inspired by Lady Gaga’s talent and self-awareness. Yes, some of her stuff is a bit out there, even for me. However, I’ve always been an advocate of her sentiment that “You have to be unique, and different, and shine in your own way.” I know I’ll never be even a fraction as talented or famous as she is, but that’s completely ok with me. I’m not competing with her, or you, or anyone else out there. In the world of success and happiness, there is more than enough room for all of us. That is why I’m just here trying to be me and make the most out of what I’ve been blessed with by God and what I’ve been working hard to build from it all. If you are doing the same, I’ll be right here cheering you on – all love and no judgement. No matter what, just be yourself and don’t let anyone keep you down, not ever.
