Part 2. LIFE SPINS MADLY ON

world spins on.jpg

This is where the rest of your life begins. Better buckle up. As I mentioned in previous weeks’ posts, although life does get better, it doesn’t mean it gets easy. There will be setbacks and a fair share of challenges ahead. Lucky for us, we’ve survived the worst of it and we’re now stronger and more equipped to deal with the bumps. So, while life certainly spins on, I tend to say it spins madly on.

I often feel like life is made up of a series of sprints and walks. We encounter something and push through it at full speed. Then we slow our pace and rest. This series repeats itself time after time. Steve Backley said, “The sprint is like life… blink and you miss it.” I think about this in a very specific way. In life, we must triage. There are certain things that come up that we must deal with immediately because it is literally life or death. Other times, things we encounter can wait. But if we only focus on the moments we must sprint through, we might miss the moments of rest. Those beautiful, lazy days where we can experience the beauty of the life that we each build around us. So, although we must arm ourselves for the battle, let’s not forget that all those little moments of peacetime we experience are just as important to recognize.

I’ll share a simple trick with you that I utilize, in case it is helpful. In my iPhone, I have a reminders section that I’ll open and reference if I’m having a rough day or if I just could use an energy boost.

Here are the current contents of those reminders:

  • Breathe. Take it one day at a time.

  • If it’s meant to be, it’ll be.

  • Chin up, Princess.

  • FEARLESS.

  • You can be your own hero.

  • Music saves me.

In case you are curious, I’ll share examples of the intel behind these items: the meant to be one is from the song, the chin up one is from a specific episode of the show Californication, the fearless one is from my tattoo, and music saves me is because music really does have the power to save us. Why do I bring this all up? Because I want to encourage you to find some little things in your own life that you can use as prompts to keep your spirits up during life’s bumps. We can all use a little help and easy little tactics like this can make a surprisingly positive impact.

And here are some lyrics as we draw to a close…

Some stories don’t end as they should.

From paths we didn’t take,

But could.

The moments lost just slivers in time.

As the echoes lead us

To goodbye.

So, am I on the right track?

To get it all

back.

Or will I remain here?

Lost and frozen in

fear.

Friends, only you can choose how your story will end. No one else can do it for you.

BE FEARLESS.
